What in the world is a wiki?
Here goes. A wiki is a webpage/site that can be edited by any one who has its common password. So in a sense, all the wiki pages are shared by all of us and we can edit any of the pages in our wiki here. It is an unspoken agreement that we must not edit or erase any other person’s work unless permission is given.
This wiki is created specially for your educational tour to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, Vietnam in November 2008.
In this wiki, you will put the links to your travel blogs - the idea is for your parents & friends to follow your tour real time, for you to see your friends' travel blogs (and have fun commenting on them) and, for you and your school to remember your trip (as this wiki will always be here for you).
Teachers, you are encouraged to do the same to set the example for your students. :) I'm sure your mothers and fathers will just be as excited (as your students' parents) to read your travel blogs and comment on them!!
Please click on your Group Link (Group 1 or Group 2 or ...) and click edit
on your own group's page.
Type in your travel blog URL.
Remember to link it by highlighting it and clicking on ![]()
And don't forget to save.![]()
If you would like to use your group's wikipage to blog about your travel instead of a travel blog, you are most welcome but bear in mind that you have to reduce your photos to less than 100KB each. Reason - we only have 10MB to share among all of us here. That's why a travel blog is better as you have unlimited uploads of photos.
If you want to create a page for yourself, please link it in your own group's page ie if you are in Group 3, your personal page should be in Group 3's page.
If you want to create a wiki for yourself for this tour, just go to pbwiki.com - don't forget to place a link in your Group's page.
If you are lost (in cyberspace, not in HCMC!!) and not sure what to do, just email me at bennett2006@gmail.com.
It is an understanding here that you do not erase/edit your friend's work in this wiki without permission.
You can add to it, comment on it but do not erase or write over it unless you have their permission.
Never post your personal information or information about someone else. Keep things like ages, addresses, phone numbers, names of towns, or even places you work off the Internet.
Treat others as you want to be treated -- don’t write mean or hurtful comments. Remember you are not anonymous! And no obscene langauge please.
The Internet is a great source of information but information is only useful when it is accurate.
Before referencing a website, ask and answer a few simple questions:
- Who is the author and what are their qualifications or credentials?
- What type of information is provided?
- When was the information created? When was it last updated or revised?
- Where is the information coming from- is the domain a .edu, .gov, .org?
- Why is the information posted; to educate, to inform, to present unbiased views, to entertain, to sell or entice?
If you find information on the wiki that shouldn’t be there first show it to your teacher (or email me at bennett2006@gmail.com). Don’t respond and don’t edit the wiki.
Your work should be original and not plagarized from the internet or from your friends' work.
References should be made when you extract or quote from websites.
Plagarized work will be referred to teachers.
